OOTSA LAKE, BC: 'WE HAVE NEVER, NEVER BOILED THIS WATER'

WaterToday caught up with Catherine Marcinek by phone from her home on the southside of Ootsa Lake, to find out more about the community water system that has been under a Boil Water Notice from BC Northern Health since May 2007.

“What boil water notice? I don’t know anything about a boil water notice!”, the reaction from Marcinek was immediate and certain. “There are seven or eight of us (households) on the system, a committee controls the water and we pay to use it.”

The source water comes from a deep line in the main part of the lake, and without disinfection immediately qualifies the system for a BWN, based on the BC Drinking Water Safety Act. According to Marcinek, the water committee at Ootsa has not advised the area residents to boil their water.
