NEW RESERVOIR MISHAP TRIGGERS BWA, MB
In their enthusiasm to equip the upgraded treatment plant in Deloraine with a new reservoir, workers punctured pipes leading from the existing reservoir twice.
"The crew was setting up the area to connect the outside reservoir with the holding tank within the treatment plant, when they accidentally punctured perfectly good pipes," says town CAO, Debbie." That problem is now fixed and we are in the process of disinfecting the system before we send tests to the lab."
According to Debbie, Deloraine (pop. 1,000) residents were advised to either boil their tap water or use bottled water. "We shut off the filling station because of this advisory but rural people
can draw from the truck filling station if they need to."
Deloraine is situated near the Turtle Mountains in the southwestern corner of Manitoba. Tourism is a big part of the town's economy. Artifacts from the Paleo Indians, dating back over 10,000 years ago, have been found in the area.
