FIRE HOSE HOOK-UP LEADS TO DO NOT CONSUME ADVISORY, QC

About 200 km away from Sainte-Florence, the village of Sainte-Françoise is also under a Do Not Consume advisory. But here, the advisory affects the whole community of 175 people who live in the village's centre.

"What happened is that the Québec government no longer wants to take responsibility for the water system here so they told us to issue a Do Not Consume advisory,"says Director General, Véronique Pelletier. "The village is on a well and with all the snow we got this winter, the water was too low to feed the whole village. So we had to connect to another well with fire hoses so everyone could have some water. A notice to advise residents of the Do Not Consume advisory was distributed door-to-door."

Véronique says that there is a chlorination system on the well but the water does reach it at the moment and the water is distributed untreated.

"I don't know how it is where you are but we still under a ton of snow here," she adds.

The village of Sainte-Françoise is a rural agricultural community located on the south bank of the Saint Lawrence River in the Bas-Saint-Laurent Region. The area is home to some 25 maple syrup shacks.
