WATER ADVISORY WRAP-UP
2018/6/14 12:00 pm
In Newfoundland two previously issued Boil Water Advisories (BWAs) were lifted, one in Corner Brook (partial advisory) and
the other in Harbour Breton (Connaigra Pond, Hutchings Pond). A BWA was issued to Mary's Harbour (St. Mary's River) due to water
entering distribution system or facility, and after a minimum 20 minute contact time, lacking a free chlorine residual of at least
0.3 mg/l or equivalent CT value.

In Saskatchewan, Precautionary Drinking Water Advisories (PDWAs) have been issued to the Northern Village of Beauval
due to depressurization caused by a power outage, the Village of Craven, due to system maintenance, and to Whitewood Auctions
due to the system not meeting monitoring requirements. A number of previously issued PDWAs have been lifted: the Village of Halbrite,
Town of Leroy, Village of Meath Park, Village of Wilcox.
A PDWA was issued due to excessive turbidity back on May 11, to Meadow Lake and the Flying Dust First Nation. At that time
it was believed that the advisory would remain in effect for several weeks at least due to the extremely poor quality of water
coming from Meadow River, the city's main water source.
The latest update is that although water quality is improving, the advisory remains in effect. According to the City Manager,
Diana Burton: "For the advisory to be lifted, the levels need to be under 0.20 units for at least 24 hours." The most recent test
results show current levels of .32 units. Burton goes on to say that once the threshold is reached: "we will need to flush the hydrants
at key points in the city in order to replace the water in our system. Then we'll need to clean out both our reservoirs and clear
wells, which is expected to take two to ten days. We expect at this point the advisory will be in place at least until mid-July if the
water quality continues to improve. The risk with high turbidity is that there is a chance of bacteria like E. coli or giardia getting
into the water system. If this does happen, the public will be notified immediately."

In British Columbia, a previously issued Boil Water Notice (BWN) to Naramata Water System was downgraded to a Water
Quality Advisory (WQA). A BWN was issued to Kekuli Bay Provincial Park Water System, due to unacceptable water quality
results (microbiological). And a WQA was issued to Mabel Lake Water Utility due to excessive turbidity. These three locations
are all in the Okanagan.

In Manitoba, a BWA was issued to Shoal Lake Water System by Prairie Mountain Regional Health Authority. The reason for
the advisory was not stated but it is expected to be short-term.

In Québec, a BWA, issued two days ago to the residents of one district in the City of Sherbrooke has been partially
lifted. One part of the district remains under advisory.

In Alberta, a Boil Water Order was issued to the Langdon Community Assoc, due to the presence of 3 Total Coliform
per 100 ml. The advisory was issued by Alberta Health Services.
