WATER ADVISORY WRAP-UP

In Ontario, a precautionary Boil Water Advisory (BWA) was issued by the Corporation of Black River-Matheson to the Town of Holtyre, the reason for which was not stated. A BWA was issued by the Township of Hornpayne due to loss of water pressure caused by generator issues which had been addressed; the advisory was issued as a precautionary measure. Both these BWAs were reported to the Porcupine Health Unit. The Grey Bruce Health Unit has issued several advisories to SDWS (small drinking water systems) during the month, including Kemble United Church, Silent Valley Cottage & RV Resort, Cape Chin B&B, and Whispering Cedars Park. The Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit has issued warnings about the possible presence of blue-green algae at Magnus Park Beach (Tay Township) and Leonard Lake (Muskoka Lakes). The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) has collected water samples from both locations for analysis. A previously issued BWA to Bewdley Pizza was rescinded by Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit.

In Saskatchewan, a Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory (PDWA) was issued to the Northern Hamlet of Cole Bay due to a prolonged power outage causing depressurization. Advance notice of a PDWA was issued to the Town of Hanley due to planned maintenance of the treated water storage reservoir; the advisory will be in effect tomorrow, Sept 19. Partial PDWAs were issued in the Town of La Ronge due to hydrant repairs, in the Town of Wolseley due to repairs on a broken water main and in the Northern Hamlet of Weyakwin, due to a water main break.

A fairly large number of previously issued PDWAs have been rescinded including those to Beechy Waterworks, Village of Earl Gray, Town of Govan, Town of Moosomin (another PDWA is still in effect in Moosomin), Village of Middle Lake, Town of Kinistino, Town of Ituna, Greenwater Provincial Park, Village of Alvena, Hamlet of Rabbit Lake (RM Round Hill).

In Newfoundland, a BWA was issued to St. Lunaire-Griquet (Lookout Brook) due to the water distribution system undergoing maintenance or repair.

In British Columbia, a BWN (Boil Water Notice) was issued by Northern Health Authority, to Upper Halfway School. The cause has not yet been determined and there is the possibility of a sampling error as samples from another site in the school were satisfactory. Analysis is ongoing. The school water is not used for drinking nor are there any water fountains. The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) has rescinded a previously issued Water Quality Advisory (WQA) to Riondel Water System (Nelson), and has also issued a BWN, effective tomorrow (Sept 19) to the Balfour Water System due to work on the new reservoir tie-in.

In Manitoba, a BWA was issued to Snow Lake public water system, the reason for which was not stated. The advisory is listed as short-term.
