Advisory for Eagle Lake, Ontario

[Return to Ontario | Return to province list]

Eagle Lake

Type: Cyanobacteria Bloom  -  Inactive

Issued: 9/22/2017

Details:

Blue-green algae bacteria has been spotted in Eagle Lake in two locations – in Angus Bay (N45.82021 W-79.50844) and in Mikisew Provincial Park (N45.80696 W-79.49131). The bacteria bloom has not yet occurred; but with the current weather conditions it could. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) will not collect another sample from this lake again this year. To be cautious, all residents of Eagle Lake should watch for the bloom. The following safety measures must be followed when you see a bloom near your residence: 1. Do not use the water. This includes: drinking, cooking, bathing, brushing teeth, water sports. NOTE: Boiling the water does not kill the toxins in the algae. 2. Do not use water from the lake for animals or pets. 3. Do not eat fish organs.
