HOLIDAY WATER REPORT 2017
ONTARIO PARKS, LODGES AND CAMPGROUNDS

Lake country in Ontario is one of the most frequented holiday spots across Canada. For those escaping the oppressive heat of the city, little beats sitting dockside on a beautiful lake with forests as far as the eye can see.

With so much fresh water, it might be assumed that drinking water wouldn't be an issue worth worrying about, however, holiday goers in the province should still be quite cautious with what they drink.

Ontario does not report the water advisories on small non-municipal water systems quite as meticulously as provinces such as British Columbia and Manitoba. Only three health units within the province post detailed advisories: North Western Health Unit; Eastern Ontario Health Unit and Haliburton, Kawartha and Pine Ridge District Health Unit.

That's not to say those small water systems found in RV Parks, campgrounds and lodges aren't kept track of however. Ontario's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has some fairly rigid guidelines for the owners/ managers of the systems.

They must ensure that:

    1) The system's water meets Ontario's Drinking Water Quality Standards

    2) Anyone who operates or works on their drinking water system is properly trained and certified

    3) Drinking water tests are done by licensed, accredited laboratories

    4) Adverse test results are reported to the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change and the local medical officer of health
The province's provincial parks do report their advisories; however they don't provide much information on why the advisories are being placed in the first place. A parks representative was able to help fill in some of the blanks but some advisories were still left unexplained.

Below is a list of the parks, lodges and RV Parks that have been reported as under advisory in the province:
