There are currently 44 short-term water advisories in First Nations communities across Canada and 40 long-term water advisories in 38 communities

FIRST NATION SHORT TERM ADVISORIES

August 18, 2026

Overview: As per Indigenous Services Canada, there are 44 short-term water advisories in First Nations communities – not including BC: in Atlantic, 1 in QC, 16 in Ontario, 8 in MB, 10 in SK, in AB.

There were 42 dwas in the previous weekly report. The short term water advisories added this week include:
  • Natashkuan Innus PWS in Quebec
  • Kingfisher Lake PWS; Onigaming PWS; and Wapekaka PWS in Ontario
  • Birch Narrows 193C PWS; Lac la Hache No. 220, PWS; Kawakatoose Poorman No. 88 PWS; in Saskatchewan

    FIRST NATION LONG TERM ADVISORIES

    June 4, 2026

    Recently lifted long-term advisories:
  • Mishkeegogamang First Nation in Ontario lifted the drinking water advisory on the 63B public water system on May 5, 2026, after completing an upgrade and expansion of their water treatment plant.
  • Long Plain First Nation in Manitoba lifted the drinking water advisory on their public water system on May 25, 2026, after replacing the watermain.
  • Okanese First Nation in Saskatchewan lifted the drinking water advisory on their public water system after upgrading and expanding the water plant and distribution system, and improving operations.

    Recently added long-term advisories:

  • The drinking water advisory affecting Wabauskang First Nation, in Ontario, became long-term on May 16, 2026, as it has been in effect for more than 12 months. The advisory affects 45 homes and 3 community buildings. The community is currently working to improve operations and complete water testing to support the lifting of the boil water advisory.
