BOUCHERVILLE, QC: PREVENTIVE BWA AFFECTING 183 RESIDENTS DUE TO PLANNED WORKS
This story is brought to you in part by Sourceia - Eco-houses
A preventive Boil Water Advisory (BWA) was issued on May 4 in the city of Boucherville affecting 183 residents.
The advisory will be in effect for residents who live at 800-900 Place Hélène-Boullé and between 1000 and 1076 Hélène Boullé St.
Residents had their water cut for six hours starting at 9 in the morning on May 7. Once the service is re-established, the preventive Boil Water Advisory is expected to last at least 48 hours, until tests on water samples deem the water drinkable.
The reason of the BWA is "the installation of a valve on the drinking water network," explains Carol Bénard, from the Engineering Directorate of Boucherville, in an email to this reporter.
The works are part of a planned major refurbish project of Hélène-Boullé and Darontal streets, estimated at a cost of CAD 3.3 million and mandated to the private firm Civil Pro.
The works consist of construction of sidewalks, repaving of roads and the repair of infrastructures that include "the complete reconstruction of the sanitary sewer, storm sewer and drinking water supply networks," describes Bénard.
Based on information provided by the Engineering Directorate of the municipality, major works at Hélène-Boullé and Darontal Streets are scheduled to end on September 2018. Additional water cuts are expected on May 8 and 9.
Residents are required to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least a minute before drinking it or use bottled water. Marie Claude Savard, communications consultant of Boucherville, informed that the municipality will advise residents when the advisory is lifted via its automated phone call system (Bottin SAM), website, social media platforms and a letter delivered by the private contractor.
