EVOTO, A SUSTAINABLE CAR RENTAL CHOICE

There are car rental companies and then there are car rental companies. They have been around for a long time and have served travelers well. It's the 21st century and we are exploring green transportation, so what about car rental companies that rent strictly Electric Vehicles (EV)?

To answer the question, they do exist, but being that this niche market is so new we wanted to speak to someone in the industry to walk us through the ins and outs.

We spoke with Max Maurice, the Marketing and Consumer Relations Manager for Evoto EV Car Rentals in Montréal. Evoto deals exclusively in luxury EVs, and as Tesla is the only manufacturer currently on the market producing this type of vehicle, the EV car rental rents only Tesla products. Maurice explained that the company considered adding hybrid vehicles to its fleet but decided to "stay true to [their] roots, 100% electric."

The Evoto car rental service is easily accessed, and "is active on many social media platforms." Maurice said the best publicity that they have had so far is "word of mouth." Possibly a sign of the times, the company draws a lot of attention through its videos.

Evoto does the tour of public events to promote their services and the EV technology, Maurice said that they encounter "the nay sayers, but for the most part the reaction has been positive." People seem to be surprised when they first hear about the service with reactions like "we didn't know we could rent Teslas," he said.

There are hidden benefits to renting from Evoto. Maurice explained when you get a test drive at a Tesla dealer "for twenty minutes, through Evoto you could rent it for a weekend, and get the full experience of charging and regenerative braking." Customers could try out all the features of the car, like Auto Pilot, before committing to buying one.

There are currently three models in the Evoto fleet, the Model S 75D, Model X 75D, and the Model S 60D. They plan on adding the Model 3 soon. Rental rates range between $350 and $500 a day. This company could be a good option for government officials who are promoting greener choices and clean energy, for a sustainable future.
