SASKATCHEWAN CAMPS, LODGES AND PARKS

Of the 252 water advisories Watertoday have listed for the province of Saskatchewan, 136 are holiday related. That's a whopping 54% for those readers who don't have a calculator nearby.
While a number of campgrounds and parks may be just setting up their systems for the season, there is still a concerning amount of private fishing/ hunting lodges with long term advisories ranging up to and beyond 10 years that have neglected to upgrade their systems or perform the proper monitoring required by the province's various health authorities.
Even for those with robust immune systems, catching a dose of E.Coli on vacation can lead to a lot worse than a runny tummy. With some strains of E.coli, such as the O157:H7, we're talking severe anemia or kidney failure here. For children or the elderly, the results can be much worse.
Vacationers shouldn't let the thought of a large pike on their mantel cloud their judgement. It's advised that some research on water quality be done before embarking on a trip to a remote lake. In addition to a rod and tackle or rifle, savvy anglers and hunters alike would do well to bring along their own water or water purifiers.
