ANISHINAABE GIKINOO’AMAAGOOWINAN - THE PEOPLE’S TEACHINGS PROGRAM
By Suzanne Forcese
Jeannie Red Eagle of Manitoba is bringing traditional knowledge from Manitoba’s first people to the forefront allowing both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to learn more about Manitoba’s culture in an online program that will run until the end of March. Sessions will be recorded for continued learning.
“We’ve created cultural language teaching, headlining various Indigenous knowledge keepers, elders, and language speakers,” said Red Eagle.
Some of the topics covered are the sacred fire, survival phrases, story tellings, songs and games.
“Right now, we’re going through a period of language reclamation. Language reclamation includes the connection to our roots, a connection to our culture, heritage and a connection to the land.”
