Overview: There are 27 short-term water advisories in First Nations communities – not including BC: 2 in Atlantic, 1 in QC, 9 in Ontario, 6 in MB, 7 in SK, 2 in AB.

Overview: As of April 16, 2026, there are 40 long-term water advisories in Canada – not including BC; this number has not changed since our last report: 0 in Atlantic, 0 in QC, 28 in Ontario, 7 in MB, 5 in SK, 0 in AB.
This number has decreased from a high of 153 in November 2015

Recently added long-term advisories
The drinking water advisory affecting Long Plain First Nation, in Manitoba, became long-term on April 16, 2026, as it has been in effect for more than 12 months. The advisory affects 33 homes and 12 community buildings. The community is working on replacing their watermain to support lifting the advisory.
Recently LIFTED long-term advisories
Rainy River First Nations in Ontario lifted the drinking water advisory on their public water system on April 13, 2026, after completing an upgrade and expansion of their water treatment plant.
