TOP WATER ADVISORIES ON THE MAP – TODAY, May 8, 2026
ON – LEAD IN SCHOOL WATERS – SK - STATE OF EMERGENCY IN 34 NORTHERN COMMUNITIES , BWA IN SWIFT CURRRENT – BC – RUSSETT BLUFF MANGANESE IN WATER – QC BWA IN BAIE-COMEAU.
ON - A new report from the Canadian Environmental Law Association found Fallingbrook Community Elementary School recorded some of the highest lead test results in Ontario during the 2024-25 school year.
One test measured 300 parts per billion of lead, 30 times Ontario’s current limit of 10 parts per billion and 60 times higher than the federal guideline of five parts per billion.
The report also found the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board recorded more failed lead tests than any other school board in the province.
Ontario is one of only two provinces and territories that have not adopted Health Canada’s strengthened limit on lead in drinking water, which was lowered from 10 parts-per-billion (ppb) to 5ppb in 2019.
SK - States of emergencies have been declared in 35 Saskatchewan rural municipalities and First Nations, as water levels rose in the RMs of Aberdeen, Big River, Garden River, Invermay, Kinistino, Leroy, Moose Range, Prairie Rose, Sasman, Osborne and Wolverine. The others are on Muskoday First Nation, the northern hamlet of St. Georges Hill and the village of White Fox.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is working with multiple agencies, including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Community Safety, and the Ministry of Highways, to provide resources and support to affected communities.
"The late thaw and higher than average snowpack combined with the late spring snowstorms continues to create significant runoff and flooding in the northeastern and east central Saskatchewan,” said Leah Clark, executive director of irrigation and economic development for SaskWater Security Agency.
In SWIFT CURRENT a Boil Water advisory is expected after a watermain break on Curry Crescent caused a water outage.
BC - The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) has issued a Boil Water Notice and Water Quality Advisory in the RUSSETT BLUFF area. The CRD says the Notice has been issued as the system is transitioned to the Lower Well, as the Upper Well aquifer can no longer meet the seasonal demand. THE WQA was issued because of high concentrations of manganese in the Lower Well that exceed the maximum allowed by Health Canada. Since boiling water will increase the manganese concentration. infants and young children absorb more manganese and cannot regulate and eliminate it as readily as adults. The Health Authority advises residents to secure and use bottled water or another alternative water source when feeding infants and young children.
